The doctor is an educated person. He has undergone a training in medical science. He has a through knowledge about the structure of the human body. He knows how the different organs of our body function. He also knows the causes and remedies for our maladies. The doctor is a very busy person. Every minute of his time counts very much. There are female doctors as well as male doctors. Commonly, we call all of them “doctors”.

When we fall ill, we go to the doctor for treatments. Then he examines our body and tries to diagnose our illnesses. For that, he employs different methods and tactics.

He keeps the stethoscope against the chest of the patient and listen to the beat of the heart and sounds of breathing. He takes the patient’s pulse by feeling the inside of the wrist with his hand. He keeps a thermometer under the patient’s tongue and measures his or her body temperature. With another simple device he very often examines the patient’s blood pressure too.

Having found what the illness is, he takes a sigh of relief proving the truth of the saying “to know the disease is half the cure.”

Thereafter, he prescribes medicines for the patient. Very often they are given in the form of pills and capsules. He tells the patient clearly when and in what amounts are those medicines to be taken. He talks with the patients very kindly and friendly. He does so, probably because he might have heard the saying “A jolly physician is better than all his pills. “He charges only a very reasonable fee for his valuable time and labour.

Doctors are very kind and humane. We have heard of doctors who have donated their own blood to their helpless and poor patients.

Very rarely, we come across doctors who increase the blood pressure of the poor man to incurable levels by charging exorbitant and unaffordable fees them.

There are also some doctors who conduct operations. They do so in order to remove or repair a diseased or and injured part of the body. They are called surgeons. Those who conduct operations on eyes, brain and teeth separately, are called eye-surgeons, brain surgeons and dental surgeon respectively.
There are also some doctors who have specialized in different fields of medicine. They are called specialist doctors.

Whatever is the professional status of a doctor, he or she is a very important and useful person. He relieves our physical and mental pains. He saves us from illnesses, maladies and untimely deaths. Therefore the doctor’s service is remarkable and cannot be valued in terms of money.

It is up to you to comprehend the inner meaning of the following saying that admires the doctor’s noble service.

“What higher aim, can man attain, than conquest over human pain.”
