I was born on the 1st of April, 1988. Therefore my birthday falls on April the first, every year.
On that particular day, I get a lot of birthday wishes from my friends. At the same time, I become the target of a lot of jokes of my friends as it is the April Fool’s Day. Sometimes, I get a little annoyed too, when my friends say that I have been born with a pack of fools.

On the last April the first I celebrated my 12th birthday. It was a very happy day for me.
My mother had stitched a new frock for me. My father had brought a new pair of shoes for me. My elder sister made a beautiful and delicious cake by herself.

The Vegetable seller comes carrying a basket full of vegetables, on his head. His wrinkled forehead and the bulging veins of the neck soaked with sweat, show that the basket is too heavy for him. On his way for sales, he shouts “vegetables, Vegetables” Very Cheap…”

When somebody stops him, he lifts his basket with great effort and places it on the ground. Then he takes a sigh of relief and shoots a cajoling look at the person.

I am a boy of eleven years. My name is (Some Name). I have an elder sister and a younger brother. Both my father and mother are daily-wage-earners. My Father works in building sites. My mother works in a nearby tea factory.

We all live in a beautiful stretch of countryside called (some name). Our small house is a cadjan thatched one situated on a small hillock. It is surrounded by slopes of tea cultivations and stretches of paddy fields. Hence, every morning, our house gets immersed in a shawl of mist.

The temple is a religious centre of the Buddhists. It is situated in a beautiful and serene environment. Buddhist monks with shaven heads and wearing saffron robes live in it.

In addition to the temple buildings in which the monks live, there are also a dagaba, a shrine-room and a Bo-tree in the temple premises. The temple compound sprinkled with yellow sea-sand and well swept, looks clean and neat.

The Bo-tree stands erect grandly as a guardian-god. It’s huge foliage offers a welcome shade to a major part of the temple compound. It’s young leaves of pale golden colour emit a rustling sound swaying in the breeze.
The pinnacle on the top of the dagaba glitters amidst the rays of the sun.
